3.4 Lowering the pump in the well

Make sure that the internal diameter of the well is larger than the pump's overall dimensions.
Caution must be used when lowering the pump unit into the well, to prevent damaging the pump or the
drop cable.

3.5 Positioning the pump in the well

This pump is designed for submersible applications, therefore dry running must be avoided, even for
brief periods.
The minimum dynamic water level must never drop below the pump's discharge port. For greater safety,
especially if the well water level is subject to fluctuations, we recommend the installation of a protective
device against dry running.
The distance between the bottom of the well and the lower end of the motor should not be less than 1 m.

4. Commissioning

After the installation and the electrical connections have been completed, and prior to the final connec-
tion to the water system, carry out the following operations:
4.1 First start
Set the on-off valve (7) - fig. 3 - about 1/3 of the way open in order to bleed all the air from the pump and
avoid sucking in too much sand, which causes premature pump wear. Then start the unit.
4.2 Checking the direction of rotation of three-phase motors
With the on-off valve about 1/3 of the way open, check the pressure reading on the gauge. Stop the
pump and switch any two leads in the control box. Start the pump again and re-check the pressure read-
ing. The correct direction of rotation is the one resulting from the connection which gives the highest
pressure value.
If a pressure gauge is not available, the correct direction of rotation can be determined on the basis of
the largest flow rate delivered by the pump with the discharge port completely open.
4.3 Checking the purity of the pumped water
After the correct direction of rotation has been determined, and with the on-off valve still open about one
third of the way, check the pumped water to ascertain whether it is clear and clean. If any residual sand
is detected, let the pump run uninterruptedly until the water is clean.
Open the valve a little further and gradually, as the water gets cleaner, continue to open it until it is fully
open. When clean water flows out the pump is ready for permanent connection to the water system.
4.4 Running with on-off valve closed
WARNING

5. Maintenance

The Z series pump does not require any scheduled maintenance. However, to prevent malfunctions, peri-
odically check the pressure and the current being drawn.
A pressure decrease is a symptom of wear in the pump's liquid end.
Greater current draw is a sign of anomalous friction in the motor and pump.
To prevent overheating, do not run the pump longer than 3 minutes with the on-off
valve closed.
